| The Traditional Academy at Jacob G. Smith offers an enriched and highly structured curriculum that develops intellectual skills and concepts for strong academic achievement.
The program provides a quiet, orderly environment with few interruptions during the school day.
The school is academically oriented with the main focus on mastering basic academic skills and developing effective study habits.
Emphasis is placed on citizenship and our American heritage to help students develop an appreciation for the principles of democracy and the contributions of others in our history.
The principal, Rebecca Ball, was named as one of 100 high performance principals in Georgia two years in a row by Governor Sonny Perdue and Superintendent of Education Kathy Cox. The 100 principals were identified as leaders whose schools were performing above expectations.
The school has three teachers with National Board Certification and several more working on national certification.
Each grade level has a minimum of one gifted-endorsed teacher.
Each grade level sponsors a community service project annually.
All students receive Latin instruction each week.
The school has the best student/computer ratio in the district. Technology is integrated throughout the curriculum.
The school has a student-operated digital-video lab that is used to film the JGS Morning Show and student projects.
Monthly school-wide assemblies are held to promote school pride and honor students for good citizenship.
Many programs are offered at school at no cost to parents. These include tutorial services, strings lessons, and instruction in chess, etiquette, music, and art.
Jacob G. Smith offers many opportunities for extra-curricular activities. These include safety patrols, color guard, Beta Club, strings, band, chorus, gardening, and SECME Club (Science, Engineering, Communications, Mathematics, Enrichment Club) or Science Olympiad. |

| Jacob G. Smith offers instructional services though the Gifted program. A Gifted facilitator at each site provides enrichment and acceleration through the Gifted curriculum for a minimum of five segments per week. |
Inclusion has been successfully incorporated at Jacob G. Smith for many years. The three fully-certified special education teachers serve in all academic areas in kindergarten through fifth grade. The Jacob G. Smith faculty strongly support inclusion and have fully supported efforts to provide an effective and exemplary inclusion model. In addition, students receive speech and language services from a licensed speech and language pathologist. |
