Published on: 7/14/2021

The Human Resources department of the Savannah-Chatham County Public School System was recently recognized by the Georgia Association of School Personnel Administrators (GASPA) with a number of awards. The team has been awarded a platinum award in strategic partnerships, a gold award in recruitment and best in class for the district's employee handbook at the organization's spring conference.

In addition to those state level awards, the District's HR team has received notice from the American Association of School Personnel Administrators that SCCPSS has been chosen to receive the digital branding award. This national award is given to the school district whose personnel department has most effectively leveraged the power of at least one digital channel to tell their district's employment story.

The district has also been awarded the AASPA William L. Hunter Point of Light Award, given to school districts making outstanding contributions in innovative and comprehensive teacher development programs designed to increase diversity of the teacher workforce. The awards will be presented at a luncheon in October at the national conference for AASPA.

Last, but not least, three members of the District's Human Resources team have each completed the requirements from AASPA to be certified as a Professional Human Capital Leader in Education.  This certification earned by Drs. Heather Bilton, Michel Pantin and Michele Fox, recognizes individuals mastery of a unique set of knowledge and skills at the intersection of education and human resources, designed to facilitate effective leadership and management in schools, districts, and other education organizations.  The pHCLE program is rooted in professional standards informed by feedback from hundreds of educators from across the country.

Kelly Coash-Johnson, Executive Director for AASPA says, “Achieving certification as a Professional Human Capital Leader in Education shows a commitment to building capacity in essential human capital standards.  Today, it is critical that school districts are able to recruit and retain top talent to ensure equitable access to excellent educators. To do that, schools need knowledgeable and skilled human capital professionals."
