Savannah-Chatham
County Public School System staff are taking on leadership roles in
organizations throughout the state. One
of the latest, SCCPSS Teacher Specialist Chris Mercer, is receiving an award
from the Georgia Council for the Social Studies as their Outstanding Supervisor
of the Year. He will be recognized at the organization’s annual
conference in Athens this month.
The Georgia Outstanding
Supervisor Award is given to a social studies leader who best exemplifies the
leadership role as described in the National Social Studies Supervisor’s Association
Position. Mr. Mercer was nominated for
the award by a teacher in Barrow County.

Forest High School History Teacher and former District and State of Georgia
Teacher of the Year, Mr. Ernie Lee is President-elect of the GCSS and is taking
over as President at the end of the conference.
