SCCPSS Unveils New E-Learning Academy for the 2020-21 School Year

Published on: 6/24/2020

Due to the increasing number of events, including but not limited to natural disasters, inclement weather, and other emergencies that result in school closures, it has become necessary for school districts to create a robust virtual learning model of instruction.   One of the ways in which the Savannah-Chatham County Public School System is addressing that need is through the creation of the Savannah-Chatham E-Learning Academy in advance of the 2020-21 School Year.

The Savannah-Chatham E-Learning Academy (SCELA) is a tuition-free, stand-alone school that uses an online instructional model as its major approach; thereby providing families with flexibility and choice regarding their learning experiences. The curriculum is provided through a state aligned, high-quality online learning platform and supported by certified teachers who also provide direct instruction. SCELA is a competency-based program in which students can demonstrate mastery of the content as they become proficient.

The E-Learning Academy will serve 900 students in grades 3-12 this school year.  Courses will be accessible 24 hours a day, seven days a week.  The online learning option provides an additional school choice for families to further support the needs of our students. The at home e-learning environment offers developmentally appropriate content for the independent learner who is organized, focused, and possesses good time management skills.

The application process for the Savannah-Chatham E-Learning Academy is open now and can be accessed through the school's website at:

Those eligible to study through the SCCPSS E-Learning Academy are both current SCCPSS students and non-SCCPSS students (fees apply for non SCCPSS, out of county students).  Students enrolled in the district's E-Learning Academy will be able to participate in sports, may engage in CTAE Pathways and Lab Experiences, and will have access to school meals.

The Savannah-Chatham County Public School System is committed to ensuring that digital content on its websites is accessible to persons with disabilities. If you or someone you know experiences an accessibility challenge on any of our web pages or digital content, please notify us by calling (912) 395-5538 or emailing
