Joe is a native of Alabama and has resided in Savannah since 1968. For 38 years he was employed at Armstrong Atlantic State University and served as Vice President for Student Affairs. He has been married for 39 years to Marilyn who is Asst. Dean of the College of Health Professions at AASU. They have two children, Joe IV, who is Associate Minister of Wesley Monumental United Methodist Church in Savannah and Sarah, who is a special education middle school teacher in the Fulton County School System.
Joe has been active in the Savannah community, across Georgia and the Southeastern United States. He is a graduate of Leadership Savannah and Leadership Georgia, has served on community and state boards related to education and has served as Chair of the Board of Directors for the United Way of the Coastal Empire. He is a longtime active member of Isle of Hope United Methodist Church.
He is Executive Director of the Southern Association for College Student Affairs and a principal partner in JBK Associates LLC, an organizational development corporation.
