Pre-K

The Savannah-Chatham County Public School System has 66 Georgia Lottery funded Pre-K classes. The Pre-Kindergarten program provides services to age eligible four year olds (must be four years of age on or before September 1 of the school year) residing in Chatham County. Our program provides a full day (6.5 hours) of appropriate instructional services to students for the regular school calendar year. The purpose of the Pre-K Program is school readiness and transition to Kindergarten for success in later school years.

Social and Emotional Skills Development

Pre-K fosters the development of social and emotional skills crucial for healthy relationships and personal well-being.

Long-Term Educational Success

Participation in Pre-K is associated with higher levels of educational attainment and long-term success.

All of our classes use the Creative Curriculum. All teachers are certified with at least a four-year degree in Early Childhood or Elementary Education. Teachers provide instructional activities and learning experiences in the areas of language/literacy, math, art, science, social studies and creative expressions. There is a minimum of 5.0 hours of instruction per day. The remaining hours (1.5) of the instructional day includes rest/nap, meals and outside play. Field trips are an integral part of the Pre-K experience.

A maximum of twenty (20) students receive services in each class. More information about the Georgia Lottery funded Pre-kindergarten Program can be obtained by going to www.decal.ga.gov
