Supporting Your Child's Literacy
From Birth-Five
The reading brain does not begin to develop when children come to school. Its development begins in utero before children are born as they listen to the world outside.
Learning to Read (PK-3rd)
Your child is in school now, but that does not mean that you have to or should stop being a literacy teacher.
Reading to Learn
(3rd Grade and Beyond)
As a generalization, 3rd grade is the space during which children make the transition from “learning to read” to “reading to learn.”
English Learners
Having language and literacy skills in a primary language helps children develop their language and literacy skills in a secondary language.
