State Literacy Standards

All public schools in the state of Georgia are required to teach the educational standards that have been approved by the Georgia State Board of Education. These standards outline what knowledge students should gain or skills they should be able to do at each grade level across all subjects.  

The Georgia Standards of Excellence for English Language Arts were adopted for use in grades K-12 beginning with the 2015-16 school year. School Year 2024-25 will mark the last year for the Georgia Standards of Excellence for English Language Arts. To view the current Georgia Standards of Excellence, click the buttons below:

Approved at the May 2023 State Board of Education meeting, Georgia’s new K-12 English Language Arts Standards will be implemented during the 2025-26 school year.
