Long-Range Facilities Plan
Proposed Revisions to Formey, Shuman, and A.B. Williams Attendance Zones
NOTE: The information presented below is ONLY a proposal. No official plans have been made or voted on by the Board of Education at this time.
UPDATE:
Shuman Elementary parents are invited to an important meeting on Monday, October 28, 2024, at 6:00 pm at Shuman Elementary School. The focus of this meeting will be Attendance Boundaries for current Shuman students beginning in the 2025-2026 school year as the school district continues to review attendance zones, school capacity levels, and facility conditions. The condition of aging schools, like Shuman Elementary, must be considered based on operational systems and building life-cycles.
In school year 2025-2026, as part of Phase 2 of the SCCPSS Long Range Facility Plan, the District will make additional facility adjustments and modifications to attendance zones. These adjustments will alleviate overcrowding, improve transportation services, and place students at schools with improved facilities that will support high quality educational offerings.
This meeting will provide crucial insights and information regarding adjustments to attendance boundaries for Shuman Elementary. It's an opportunity for parents and staff to engage, ask questions, and be informed about these recommended changes impacting the school community and attendance zones for next school year. The maps below show the current attendance zones and the proposed changes.
Current attendance zones as of 10/18/2024.
Proposed attendance zones as of 10/18/2024.
Information regarding proposed grade bands for the impacted schools is available below in the original proposal post. Parents will also have the opportunity to meet and engage with the principals from neighboring schools including the Early Learning Center at Formey, A.B. Williams, and the School of Humanities at Juliette Low.
All meetings are informational regarding the proposed recommendations for Phase 2 of the SCCPSS Long Range Facility Plan. Modifications to any attendance zone recommendation is subject to final approval by the Board of Public Education.
We encourage your presence and participation during the upcoming meeting so that we can ensure everyone is well-informed and involved in the decision-making process.
ORIGINAL PROPOSAL:
On Monday, March 25th, 2024, a Long-Range Facilities Plan meeting was held to discuss the proposed revisions to the A.B. Williams, Shuman, and Formey school attendance zones.
Below, you will find the maps showing the proposed revisions to the A.B. Williams, Shuman, and Formey attendance zones. As shown below, the current proposal includes closing Shuman Elementary at the end of school year 2024-2025. In school year 2025-2026, students from Shuman Elementary would be reassigned to A.B. Williams Elementary School, Juliette Low Elementary School, and the Henderson E. Formey Learning Center.
Students in grades PK-1 from Shuman Elementary would be reassigned to the Henderson E. Formey Early Learning Center or Juliette Low Elementary based on the attendance zones below. Students in grades 2-5 would be reassigned to A.B. Williams Elementary or Juliette Low Elementary based on the attendance zones below.
In addition to attendance zone changes for Shuman Elementary, changes would be made to A.B. Williams and Formey as well. In school year 2025-2026, Formey would serve students in grades PK-1, and A.B. Williams would serve students in grades 2-5. This is to ensure that A.B. Williams has adequate classroom space to welcome the students transitioning from Shuman Elementary.
