Bloomingdale Beam Signed to Top Off New School Facility
Bloomingdale Elementary School students, staff, and members of the Board of Education had the opportunity to sign one of the beams that will be built into their new school this week. The new 150,641 square-foot school will replace the original 60-year-old Bloomingdale Elementary building.
District officials arranged for the beam to be delivered to the New Hampstead K8 facility on Tuesday, September 17, so Bloomingdale students who are currently attending school at that site could sign it. Then, they transported the beam to the Whitney Administrative Complex so that the Superintendent and Board of Education members could be a part of history as well.
The former Bloomingdale Elementary School building was demolished in August 2023 to make way for the new facility. Students, teachers and staff are at the "swing site," New Hampstead K8, until construction is complete in July 2025. The ESPLOST-funded replacement facility is being built on the old site and will house 64 classrooms, ranging from Pre-K to 5th grade for 1,000 students. The cost of the replacement facility is $64,000,000.
ESPLOST is a penny sales tax on goods and services purchased within the county that is used to fund capital improvement projects for the county school district. Extended through a voter referendum every five years, ESPLOST has generated more than $1 billion for public schools since its inception in 2006.
