Savannah High Boys Basketball Wins Class A Division II State Championship!
On Friday, March 7, 2025, the boys basketball team from the School of Liberal Studies at Savannah High faced Macintosh County Academy for the fourth time this season with everything on the line. Savannah High had won two of the previous three games, but this meeting would be held at the Macon Coliseum with a State Championship at stake.
The game was competitive throughout the afternoon with each team going on big runs and trading leads. Savannah High trailed by double digits multiple times, once in the third quarter, and then again in the fourth – but this team of eleven seniors never quit. Both times they fought back - to within a few points in the third, and finally went on an 18-2 run for the lead in the fourth.
It was a lead they never relinquished. Savannah High won their first State Title in 27 years by a score of 58-52 over the McIntosh County Academy Buccaneers. They won that title in 1998 under long-time Coach Tim Jordan who was in attendance on Friday to watch this first state title game under his former assistant and Savannah High’s second year head Coach George Brown.
A celebration for the Savannah High boys basketball team is planned for later this week. Details will be released in the coming days. Congratulations to all!
