SCCPSS School Nutrition Recognized by GaDOE with Farm to School Award
Updated

The School Nutrition Program for Savannah-Chatham County Public Schools is a winner of the Georgia Farm to School Award for SY 2024-2025. SCCPSS has been recognized for our Farm to School efforts every year since the honor was first designated in 2014 by Georgia Organics. There was no awards process during the COVID years of 2020 & 2021. The Georgia Department of Education School Nutrition Program took over stewardship of the program beginning in 2022.

Criteria for the award include using locally grown items in school meals, Farm to School promotions conducted throughout the school environment, schools with edible gardens, and Farm to School language adopted into the district’s Policy or Procedure. The Georgia Department of Education School Nutrition Division, with the Georgia Department of Agriculture, University of Georgia Extension, and the Georgia Department of Public Health, annually recognizes outstanding farm to school programs with the Georgia Farm to School Award.

SCCPSS Farm to School Specialist Morphia Scarlett has been working diligently with Menu Management, Marketing & Promotions Manager, Mr. Matt Kubiak, to ensure that SCCPSS will continue this streak through this current school year. She accepted the award on the district’s behalf at the annual School Nutrition Director's Conference early last month in Athens from Georgia Agriculture Commissioner Tyler Harper, State School Superintendent Richard Woods, and Georgia Department of Education Assistant Director Holly Thaw.

SCCPSS School Nutrition Executive Director Diane Ganci says, “This Award could not have been possible without the hard work from everyone on the SNP Team! It takes more than just putting up posters and adding ingredients to a menu. It takes introducing the students to new flavor, colors, and tastes in an exciting and fun way each month.” Congratulations to all!
