Victor Roman is the Superintendent's Student of the Month for August 2024

Our Student of the Month for August is Victor Roman, a senior at the School of Liberal Studies at Savannah High School. Victoris described as having “grit, focus, and determination.”  He struggled with learning during virtual learning and COVID, but he did not give up...it just pushed him to want to do ‘more’ and to want to be ‘better’.  In fact, Victor said he feels like he learned a better understanding of patience and problem-solving, understanding that the issues that people face are varied and hard, oftentimes with no single solution. He has worked extremely hard to maintain his GPA, taking Honors, Advanced Placement, and Dual Enrollment courses. Victor will tell you that he will graduate as an Honor Graduate this year and the staff and faculty at Savannah High have no doubt that he will.  His leadership, selfless service, and desire to improve are testaments to his character and will enable him to achieve his dreams. Moreover, these characteristics are on display for all to see every day, setting a great example for all the students at Savannah High.

JROTC plays a huge role in Victor’s academic career, and he has been a driving force in developing and building the program at Savannah High. Last year, during his junior year, Victor was inadvertently not scheduled with any JRTOC classes but still volunteered to help and assist at all of the events held throughout the year, and if a volunteer was needed, he would jump in and assist. He has won numerous Leadership awards and took third place in Rifle Team, Drill Team, and Color Guard competitions.  He also took top honors in the 3DE Business Competition.  He is a National Honor Society member, historian of the Future Business Leaders of America, and a member of DECA.  He has accumulated over 100 hours of community service with these organizations!

When asked what motivates him to succeed, our scholar responded with a phrase from his father: “Always try hard because life is never easy.”

Victor will be joining the Marine Corps upon graduation.  He plans on continuing his education during and after military service to become a lawyer. Victor will be taking home several gifts from our sponsors, including Members First Credit Union, Advertising Specialties, Georgia Southern University, Gulfstream, and more.  In addition, Victor and his ELA class will receive copies of his favorite book Oh, the Places You Will Go by Dr Suess, donated by our sponsor E. Shaver Bookseller.  Again, congratulations to Victor, his family, and the Savannah High Blue Jacket family!  And special thanks to his nominators, Principal Stacie Pottenger and Kimberly Reynolds, Counselor.
