Woodville-Tompkins Student Wins 2025 National Capitol Hill Challenge
Woodville-Tompkins rising senior, accounting pathway completer, and FBLA Officer Lady Laura Bahena Diaz placed first in the recent Securities Industry and Financial Markets Association’s (SIFMA) annual Capitol Hill Challenge. As a result, she and Woodville-Tompkins Business Education instructor John Cook, will travel to Washington, D.C. next week to be recognized.
The Capitol Hill Challenge is a nationwide,16-week financial education program where teams from each congressional district invest a hypothetical $100,000 through the acclaimed Stock Market Game™ program to learn the value of the capital markets as they work together to maximize the return of their portfolios. They learn integral workplace skills such as collaboration and critical thinking and improve their personal financial behavior and standardized test scores in math and economics.
Thousands of teams competed in all 50 states in every congressional district. Only the top 10 teams will visit Washington, D.C. next week to be honored at a reception in recognition of their achievement. The First through Third place teams will give presentations during the awards ceremony on June 11th.
In addition to the awards and national recognition, teams have the opportunity to engage directly with government and business leaders. During their time in D.C., the teams will enjoy visits with Members of Congress and a recognition reception on Capitol Hill; along with meetings with business, government, and education leaders to learn about fiscal policy making, the role of the capital markets, and global economic trends. The winners will also have the opportunity to tour financial landmarks and national monuments.
The top 10 CHC teams will visit Washington, D.C. from June 10th-12th.
