Over the past month, the Savannah Arts Academy (SAA) visual art department has been working in collaboration with Charles Ellis, JG Smith, Pulaski, and Largo-Tibet elementary schools. The visual art teachers from those schools were tasked with having their 1st – 3rd graders draw fantastical figures (monsters) from their imaginations. These students are also asked to give some details about their figure such as their monster's personality, where the monster lives, what they like to do, what abilities they have, etc.
The SAA visual art students were tasked with interpreting the drawing, reimagining the monster, and creating an original piece of work in the mediums of digital art, painting, drawing, and sculpture.
Last week, SAA invited all the artists and their families to the Fantastical Figure gallery. There was a tremendous turn out for the gallery. Awards were given and some of the artists (big and small) were able to meet each other. Two Savannah Arts Alumni served as judges for the show.
